Yup, I have a mountain of IKEA cups sitting in my basement. They are definitely a great cheap way to get started with slalom, although the advantages of the more expensive slalom cones are that they stack much more tightly, and are not nearly so painful to fall on.

Except when you manage to fall on one cone with your thigh and then hop onto the next cone with your ribs... this you will feel for the next few days :(

Another disadvantage of the IKEA cups is that the wind will get them easier, so they blow away pretty fast compared to the universkate cones (if it's windy outside, I do prefer my old swiss cones... they don't blow away very easy)

I'm still recovering from fear of falling after my last slalom session, where I landed on an IKEA cup with my tailbone. It exploded, and I rolled around in pain. Not a pleasant memory.

We use IKEA cups in Romania too
Luckily for me/my tailbone we discovered and bought the last 8 cups at another local supermarket. After I fell and 'splashed' one of them I can now fill out their complete tech specs list  : thinner than ikea cups and way better for landing on them :D Plus they weren't found under kids department so that a young couple arguing about kids cups don't get that touchy gaze from the shop assistants
